Steel Door Repair by Heritage Steel Window Repair
Steel doors share the same strengths and problems as steel windows: strong, slim frames that suffer when paint fails and hinges wear. We repair and restore steel French doors, garden doors, entry doors and interior glazed screens.
Doors take more abuse than windows, so hinges, closers, locks and thresholds get extra attention on every job.
Doors That Drag or Will Not Latch
A steel door that drags or will not latch has usually dropped on its hinges or been pushed out of square. We re-hang it on new hinge pins, shim the frame and adjust the strike so it closes with a light push.
Rust at the bottom rail is the other common problem. We cut out damaged steel, weld in new metal and refinish the door.

Steel Door Services

Interior Steel Screens
Interior glazed steel screens and pivot doors need precise alignment. We adjust pivots and frames and replace glass with safety glazing where the code requires it.
Security
We can upgrade old steel doors with modern locks and laminated glass while keeping the original look.
We serve Philadelphia, the Main Line, Bucks, Chester and Delaware Counties, South Jersey and Wilmington. Related services: window hardware, storm windows, rust removal.
Signs Your Steel Door Needs Attention
Watch for a door that scrapes the threshold, a gap that lets light through at the top corner, a latch you have to lift to engage, or rust bubbling under the paint at the bottom rail. Each one gets worse with use, and a door forced closed every day bends its hinges and frame.
Early repair is usually an adjustment, new hinge pins and fresh seals. Waiting longer can mean welding new metal into the bottom rail or reframing the opening.
We repair steel doors in rowhouse rear extensions, Main Line garden rooms and commercial entrances, and we can match the finish of the windows around them so the whole wall looks consistent.
Good to Know
Older steel doors were often hung on heavy butt hinges or pivots that are no longer stocked. We rebuild the originals when possible, or fit modern hinges that carry the same weight without changing how the door looks from either side. Thresholds are checked at the same time, since a worn threshold is a common source of drafts and water.
