Storm Windows by Heritage Steel Window Repair
A good storm window is the most cost-effective way to make an old window more efficient. It adds a second layer of glass and stops drafts while the original window stays in place.
We fit custom interior and exterior storm windows for steel and wood windows, and we repair old wood storm sashes.
Interior or Exterior?
Interior storms are almost invisible from the street and are often the best choice for steel windows and historic facades. Exterior storms protect the primary window from weather and are common on wood double-hungs.
We help you choose based on the window type, the look of the house and how you use the windows.

Storm Window Services

Wood Storm Sash Repair
Many older houses still have wood storm sashes in the basement or garage. We repair, reglaze and paint them, label them by opening and hang them back up.
Comfort and Noise
Storm windows also reduce outside noise, which is a real benefit on busy city streets.
We serve Philadelphia, the Main Line, Bucks, Chester and Delaware Counties, South Jersey and Wilmington. Related services: rust removal, media blasting, steel window repair.
Storm Windows and Philadelphia Winters
Old single-pane windows lose most of their heat through drafts around the sash rather than through the glass itself. A storm window stops those drafts and adds a still air layer, which makes rooms noticeably more comfortable during cold, windy Philadelphia winters.
For steel windows we usually recommend interior storm panels. They seal against the inside of the frame, are almost invisible from the street and can be removed in summer for ventilation. Historic district reviewers generally prefer them because the exterior stays unchanged.
For wood double-hungs, a low-profile exterior storm painted to match the trim protects the primary sash from weather and extends its life. Either way, we measure each opening individually; old houses are rarely square.
Good to Know
Storm windows can also be fitted with screens, so the same frame gives you insulation in winter and ventilation in summer. Seasonal changeover visits are available if you prefer not to swap panels yourself.
